The Mission
The mission of Asociación Mayab is to foster the optimal development of the Yucatec Maya community in the San Francisco Bay Area. As a non-profit organization based in San Francisco, we provide essential social services and emergency support to Maya immigrant families, while promoting the values and traditions of Yucatec Maya culture.

We serve as a vital bridge for communication between our community and local authorities, consulates, and Mexican Yucatecan governments. Our efforts focus on enhancing participation, facilitating cultural exchange, and supporting economic development for Yucatecan immigrants in the Bay Area and their communities of origin.

Through organized activities, we encourage greater interaction and unity within the Yucatec Maya community, while working to strengthen cultural pride and values. Additionally, we strive to ensure our community has access to the social services and resources available in the Bay Area, evaluating and implementing solutions to meet the unique needs of the Yucatec Maya people.
Our Story
Asociación Mayab was founded in 2004 by a group of Maya immigrants deeply concerned about the decline of their rich cultural traditions and language, particularly among younger generations. Committed to preserving and advancing Maya culture, the organization focuses on educational programs, youth leadership development, and community outreach to ensure the survival and growth of Maya heritage.
Today, Asociación Mayab continues to serve the estimated 80,000 Maya immigrants in the San Francisco Bay Area by providing culturally and linguistically appropriate services. With a steadfast commitment to the future of Maya culture, the organization is dedicated to passing down the traditions, language, and values of the Maya people for generations to come.
